Multiply a three-digit number by a one-digit number — extend the split and column methods.
Split a Three-Digit Factor
$$206 \times 4 = 200 \times 4 + 6 \times 4 = 800 + 24 = 824$$
$$309 \times 6 = 300 \times 6 + 9 \times 6 = 1800 + 54 = 1854$$
Follow the book’s “split the numbers” examples from mental warm-ups ($200 \times 8$, $90 \times 7$, …).
Column Method
Multiply ones, tens, hundreds in turn; regroup carefully — zeros in the middle (e.g. 206) are common traps.
