  • Mental: ×÷ before +−; left-to-right for same-level ops.
  • Column method: line up place values; watch borrowing across zeros (e.g. $1002 - 888$).
Common error: $1002 - 888$ is $114$, not $224$ — check each borrow.

  • Multi-square blocks: can they tile a $4 \times 3$? Check area $12$ and fit.
